Visual Arts: Creating, Observing, and Growing

Welcome to the Elementary Visual Arts program. We believe that art does not exist simply for its own sake; rather, it is a powerful tool used to observe, analyze, and understand the world around us.

Our Philosophy

Our primary goal is to foster a genuine appreciation and love for the arts while building self-confidence. By balancing guided instruction with independent exploration, we provide a safe space for students to take creative risks and develop their unique voices as young artists.

Exploring Mediums & Methods

Students are introduced to a wide variety of materials and artistic styles, learning to translate what they see into tangible creations. The curriculum covers two distinct areas of focus:

  • 2-D Artwork: Students develop techniques using paint, pastels, and various other flat mediums.
  • 3-D Construction: Students bring ideas to life using clay, wood, and paper, while learning technical distinctions such as the difference between a relief and a full sculpture.

A Fluid Journey of Growth

Art education in elementary school is a fluid process. We continuously introduce, revisit, and build upon key terms and understandings from year to year.

By the time students graduate from our elementary program, they will have the skills to recognize, understand, and apply the foundational Elements and Principles of Art to their work, preparing them for a lifetime of creative thinking.
